JAMES H. RILEY
Principal
Jim Riley is a principal of Napa Wealth Management, specializing in retirement financing, long-term care planning and matters related to taxation. He joined the company in 2003. His background includes international shipping operations for Maersk Container Line and General Steamship Corporation, from which he transitioned into the financial services industry – joining a Marin county CPA firm in 1988. He is a graduate of Princeton University where he studied history. His professional qualifications include EA (enrolled agent licensed to practice before the IRS), CFP® and CSA (certified senior advisor). Jim speaks and writes extensively on topics related to seniors’ financial welfare. Currently he has articles in Spidell’s Elder Client Planner magazine and in our firm’s newsletter.
There was a time when Jim thought he might become a standup comic (for reasons that become obvious once you get to know him), but ultimately decided on a more secure career path. Raised in the Midwest and relocated to San Francisco in 1968, he is the only child to a WW II Navy fighter pilot/ international diplomat and a working mother, who has distinguished herself in local radio broadcasting. He has traveled widely and continues to deepen his knowledge in the history of ancient civilizations. Jim is active in community causes and also serves on the board of the local Rotary club. He is passionate about community arts, being particularly partial to abstract expressionism. Jim and his wife of 23 years also share an avid interest in animal welfare. They make their home in the North Bay with an immediate family consisting entirely of rescued animals.
